Hidratação no Inverno

Publicado: 28.10.2015

The drinking of water in winter is a real challenge. In the summer, we tend to replace excreted fluids more frequently since we feel a greater need to drink because of perspiration and at the same time we also cool our body down with the consumed liquid. In the winter, this is not the case, and we frequently find ourselves in a situation when we barely consume a whole glass of water throughout the day. At the same time, we wonder why the skin on our hands is so cracked...

The situation is made even worse by the low air humidity outside and inside since we excrete a lot of water through breathing as well. By the way: did you know that you would not be able to live with an air humidity of 0%? You simply could not breathe...

In the winter, we usually change our diet – due to the lower temperatures our needs for food rise and we simply eat more, whereas the food is also stronger. Food that we need to warm the body up can be transformed into energy only if we are sufficiently hydrated.

Therefore water is one of the key regulators of our body’s temperature and good health. However, it is not only important for the regulation of our body temperature but also for the prevention of various diseases.

We need to make sure we consume enough water day by day and the following tips will help you to do just that in the winter:

  • In the morning, drink a glass of water on an empty stomach. It will speed up the breakfast digestion and make sure that you complete your morning activities efficiently.
  • A glass of water before bedtime will ensure a restful sleep and the water will flush all of the unnecessary substances out of your body.
  • Always (in the car, at work) keep a filled Flaska at hand so you will have easy access to water throughout the day.
  • On cold days, drink unsweetened Before lunch, do not skip the soup so that you consume sufficient amounts of the necessary minerals. Also fruit beverages can be recommended.
  • If you are hungry, first have a glass of water.
  • With a humidifier or a wet towel on the radiator you can provide for sufficient air humidity in the room in order to minimize humidity excretion through breathing.

Of course you can ask yourself how much water is actually enough? The value of two litres per adult per day has stuck, however, it does not take the weight, age, working environment, personal habits, an individual’s metabolism, weather, etc. into consideration. Therefore it is not even theoretically possible to give you an accurate value since it would make no sense. Each and every one of us needs to find their own drinking balance despite the external challenges.
